Soul destroying - I was given this book by a well meaning person who sought to help me. Oh dear, from the beginning I felt threatened and bullied- I put it down and could not get to sleep, I was crying so hard.If you are already in tune with the main bully-boy clique in society it may help, but otherwise it will just make you feel worse about yourself.Avoid.

A really practical book - If you find people walk all over you, or if you walk all over other people, and want to change you ll find this book to be really practical. Actually, it s not really a book in the sense of a read, more of a pocket reference with bullet-point tips on how to be assertive with people. Nothing particularly new in the information it presents, but laid out in an easy-to-read manner. And it works!

An excellent easy-to-read introduction to assertiveness. - I am a corporate trainer, coach and consultant and I often recommend books to my coachees to read. As usual, the Pocketbook series comes up trumps. The text is clear and easy to read. The layout is reader-friendly, helped by fun cartoon illustrations. The book provides a simple but comprehensive introduction to Assertiveness and is a must as a first read in this subject, particularly for those who are short on reading time or inclination! I often follow this book up with Assertiveness at Work by Ken and Kate Back, if my coachee wishes/needs to explore further.
